Stella Rosa Mcdonald is an artist, writer and curator with a Master of Fine Arts from the College of Fine Arts, UNSW. Her practice spans text, video, photography, print and installation and focuses on writing as a critical form.

As a writer, Stella has contributed critical writing, fiction and poetry to a variety of publications and artist’s projects including Vitamin P3, New Perspectives in Painting (Phaidon), Overland Literary Journal, Ocula Magazine, Das SuperpaperThe Art Life and Art &, amongst others.

Stella has exhibited throughout Australia, including Firstdraft, Kudos Gallery, SNO Contemporary Art Projects and Verge Gallery, Sydney, NSW, Sawtooth ARI, Launceston, TAS and NCCA, Darwin, NT. She was a finalist in both The Macquarie Digital Portraiture Award (2013 ), National Portrait Gallery, Canberra, and The Qantas Spirit of Youth Awards, (2012). In 2012, she completed the UNSW, COFA Cité International des Arts Residency, Paris and the The MoMA PS1 Summer School, New York.

In 2016, she was project manager for The Bureau of Writing, a collaborative writing program designed for artists and presented alongside the 20th Biennale of Sydney in association with Artspace, Sydney. As the Associate Gallery Manager of Minerva, Sydney (2014-2016), she facilitated a range of exhibition and publishing projects with leading Australian and international artists, writers and curators.
